ERIC HEBBORN
AFTER REMBRANDT
“STUDY FOR A PIG”
An economy of detail satisfies the requirements of imitation in this simple sketch by notorious forger Eric Hebborn. Not satisfied with strict imitation, Hebborn honed his award-winning talent to include details not found in original works that added qualities persuasive to the eyes of scholars and museum officials. His elaborate old master drawing (not signed by him, of course) were legitimate enough to pass the gatekeeper’s careful examination. Works after Claude, Watteau, Tiepolo and scores of others he successfully imitated are still hanging in museums from The Metropolitan in New York to England and The Louvre among many other important collections.
MATERIALS
Ink on foolscap. Signed by the artist (not therefore a forgery).
