BIOGRAPHY
Simone Cantarini, or Simone da Pesaro, called “il Pesarese” was an Italian painter and etcher. He is mainly known for his history paintings and portraits executed in an original style, which united aspects of Bolognese classicism with a bold naturalism. (Wiki).
DETAILS
English collection, “Con ts Lindsay”, John Lindsay, the 24th Earl of Crawford. Purchased in Italy in the year 1825. Scene of figures in the same hand on the verso. Removed from backing sheet (third photo from top) for conservation and paper restoration (see the before first photo above).
MATERIALS
Brown ink on laid paper with infill top right-hand side, using leaf casting method to complete the absent blank corner.
